Make a Difference in Da Nang: Supporting Vulnerable Communities Through Volunteering

Our Supporting Social Work Program offers opportunities for volunteers to take part in social work and community support, working alongside local organizations that care for children, people with disabilities, and elderly people. It is a chance to step outside the usual tourist experience, meet local communities, and spend your time doing something that has a positive impact.

What is our purpose?

Volunteer Vietnam’s Social Work Program in Da Nang was created to give volunteers the opportunity to become involved in this kind of meaningful community work. Through direct interaction with local communities, volunteers can provide practical support while also creating a sense of companionship and connection for people who may need it.

Who will you support?

Volunteer Vietnam’s Supporting Social Work Program focuses on several vulnerable groups within the local community, including orphans and disadvantaged children, people with disabilities, and elderly people.

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with local communities and learn more about their everyday lives, challenges, and experiences. Volunteers do not need to have professional social work experience.

Where will you volunteer?

Volunteers may work with several local social support organizations in Da Nang, including the Social Support Center, Village of Hope, and School for Possibilities. Each placement gives a different experience, depending on the people being supported and the activities taking place there.

Social Support Center: volunteers can spend time supporting people who need care and companionship, including elderly people and other community members who benefit from social support.

Village of Hope: volunteers can interact with children through games, activities, and everyday care. The focus is on creating positive interactions and giving children opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy time with others.

School for Possibilities: volunteers may work with children with disabilities through activities such as sensory play, games, and teaching practical life skills. These activities provide opportunities for volunteers to communicate with children in a patient and engaging way.

What will you do?

The activities in the Social Work Program are simple, practical, and mainly involve human connection. Your activities will depend on the placement and the needs of the people you are supporting, but there are plenty of ways to get involved:

• Baby care

• Elderly care and companionship

• Sensory play with children with disabilities

• Games and recreational activities

• Conversation and social interaction

• Spending time with people in the community and supporting their everyday activities

Working with different groups of people can help you become more confident in communicating, more patient when facing unfamiliar situations, and more aware of the different experiences people have in their everyday lives. You may also develop practical skills in teamwork, communication, empathy, adaptability, and cross-cultural understanding.

Volunteers do not need to have professional social work experience. What matters most is patience, kindness, responsibility, and a genuine willingness to spend time with others.
